Support for Zoning in Vanuatu
Under the VSTLRI, support was given to create a Zoning and Development Control Framework for the Greater Luganville Area that has yet to be gazetted.
Other proposals that are in the pipeline that have yet to be developed, are for the Loltong Mini-Township on Pentecost Island, the Lakatoro Mini-Township (Malekula Island) and Port Vila (Efate Island).
Zoning Maps and Development Control Planning
Training was been provided to the Zoning Core Team and to Provincial and Municipal Planners combined with the Land Lease Compliance Team. Additional training requirements have been identified and are being planned for.
Mentoring has also been provided to the Core Team in their work on zoning and Development Control Plans (DCP) for Loltong and Malekula.
Preparation for zoning and DCP work in Port Vila has been reviewed and recommendations have been made.
A more structured approach to zoning and DCPs is recommended, including the preparation of a National level Development Control Plan and then Structure Plans for each Physical Planning Area. DCPs should be followed up with master Plans.
