The Customary Land Tribunal has been established in accordance with the Customary Lands Act of 2001. Its purpose is to administer land disputes in Vanuatu.
Currently, with the help of Department of Lands, it is carrying out awareness and training to chiefs throughout Vanuatu.

1. Monitor land tribunal systems to ensure smooth operation practices.
2. Establish land tribunal offices in the six provinces.
3. Establish and enforce customary laws in the Islands of Vanuatu.
4. Collaborate with the Malvatumauri Council of Chiefs in all land tribunal matters.
5. Collaborate and work closely with Governmental Agencies such as the Minister of Internal Affairs and NGOs such as NZAID in supporting the work of Land Tribunals throughout the country.
6. Provide logistic support and Conduct workshops and training on customary law and procedures.
7. Assist in listing of chiefs and elders who can be judges and adjudicators and supervising them in the hearing of cases at all tribunal levels.
